Windows下的软件性能有了可比性，Mohammed Saleh做了一个Ubuntu 8.04和Windows XP SP3下的软件性能对比。
测试的主要是多媒体性能和硬盘性能，前者主要是Blender、Avidemux等软件的性能测试，后者主要是采用命令行下的RAR和ClamAV，结果显示，XP在多媒体方面大幅超越Ubuntu，而Ubuntu在IO相关程序方面更有优势——尽管测试的时候Ubuntu是ATA硬盘而XP在SATA硬盘上。
